A woman is considered to have entered menopause when one year has passed since her last menstrual period. The transitional phase leading up to that time is called perimenopause, and it can last for many years – typically beginning anywhere from a woman’s late 30s to her 50s. (Although for those with Early Menopause, this can be much younger).
The perimenopause can be a scary and lonely time, with many women left wondering ‘what is wrong with me?’ and not knowing where to turn. It can have wide-ranging impact, affecting work, relationships, family life and self-esteem.
Every woman is different and the list of symptoms is vast, but the most common include:
Hot & cold flushes
Anxiety
Brain fog
Mood swings
Weight gain
Palpitations
Low sex drive
Changing periods
Vaginal dryness
Aching joints and muscles
And many more…
